Oiling a cutting board

Here’s some quick cutting board maintenance. This one is our personal board made of ambrosia maple. Some people call it wormy maple or ghost maple. The ambrosia beetle bores into the wood and brings along a fungus that discolors the wood.

In the first picture you can see that the board is visibly dry and the knife marks really stand out. I just apply some mineral oil (find it in the laxative section of your local pharmacy/drug store) and wipe it around with my fingers. Let it soak in for a bit and the board will be looking good as new.
