Ash Trestle Table

I built this table for our kitchen out of ash from a sawyer in Baltimore County with a little bit of walnut I picked up several years ago from someone in Havre de Grace that had some trees from his property cut up so it’s all “local” wood. I was able to get a bunch of ash slabs from the middle of the tree, cut out the pith and was left with a lot of nice quartersawn/riftsawn pieces for the top. I grain filled the top and edges with a medium brown dyed filler. Loose mortise and tenon joinery for the base and a water borne conversion varnish for the finish.

2020 Season Update

For reasons that should be fairly obvious to everyone, the craft shows we normally participate in have been cancelled this year. We don’t have any plans to search out and participate in any shows that may still be held.

That said, we’ve already gotten some requests from previous customers and we do still have inventory so if you’re interested in picking up some more handmade gifts feel free to call, email, or use the contact form here on the website.

Thanks and be safe.

“Turtle and Chicken(s)”

So…this isn’t staged at all.  We walked out last night to put away the chickens and found this going on.

That’s 4 of our chickens just chilling in the grass sitting next to a ~12″ snapping turtle.  After shooing the chickens past the turtle and getting them locked up, we (carefully) deposited the turtle into a bucket and freed it into a lake down the street.

Canning Cabinet

Canning ShelfThis is something utilitarian I made for storing our home canned goods.  I saw something similar on a /r/woodworking post and eventually got around to making it this past winter.  I just “finished” it this past weekend when I sprayed everything with semi-gloss water-based polyurethane (Varathane).  This was my first time spraying this finish and I am very happy with how it turned out.  I used 3/4″ Maple Purebond plywood for the case and 1/2″ for the drawers.  For the drawers I used simple pocket hole construction and glued/nailed the bottom on which is ok since it’s all plywood.  With the case and drawers done, I glued up some Poplar for the drawer fronts.  I used economical epoxy coated slides for all the drawers.  It’s about 55″ tall and 24″ wide outside dimensions.  An interesting thing is how the Poplar lost its green tinge and it turned a nice golden brown due to sun exposure.

Here’s an album of some build pictures:

We had a great time at the Harford County Farm Fair this year and it looked like a lot of you guys did as well!  Lots of people attending all the great events and sampling all the tasty foods.  Thank you to all of our customers, everyone that stopped by to chat at the booth and everyone that stopped by to attend the demonstrations put on by all the artisans we were sharing the tent with.  See you all next year.
